Microsoft Surface running Windows RT needs to be less than $599

When Microsoft showed us two new tablets they both looked very appealing. What they failed to announce was the price for either their Surface running Windows RT or the Surface running Windows 8 Pro.

A source close to Microsoft has informed TNW that the RT model will start at $599 and the Pro model at $999. The price for the Pro model isn’t really surprising but $599 for the RT version seems pretty excessive considering it won’t have no where near the app selection of an iPad and will have an inferior display coming in at 1366×768. The high price tag could be justified by the inclusive of the keyboard cover but I have a sneaking suspicion this will be an optional extra.

If the $599 price for the RT is correct, its going to be a hard sale for Microsoft to convince a regular consumer, let alone someone technically savvy to invest in the RT tablet.
